Biography

Paulo Perez

Paulo Perez has been a Colombian cinematographer since 2000. He has shot series, films and documentaries in Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, India, Tunisia, Qatar, the United States and Europe, including “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, “The Head of Joaquín Murrieta”, “The Great Heist”, “Green Frontier”, “La celda de los milagros”, “Anna” and “The Wind Journeys”, among others. For him, cinema is a way of writing the memory of his time. Care for the environment and the legacy of Indigenous peoples run through his work and have led him to tell these stories across several continents.

He is a founding member and current president of the ADFC, the Colombian association of cinematography directors (Asociación de Directores de Fotografía Cinematográfica de Colombia), a member of IMAGO, the International Federation of Cinematographers.

Awards and festivals

  • “One Hundred Years of Solitude” (season 1): 2025 India Catalina Award for Best Cinematography in Fiction, shared with Sarasvati Herrera.
  • “One Hundred Years of Solitude” also won three 2025 Platino Awards: Best Miniseries or Television Series, Best Male Performance and Best Supporting Male Performance.
  • “The Wind Journeys”: Macondo Award for Best Cinematography (2010). Official selection, Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2009.
  • “Chocó”: Best Cinematography, Salón Internacional de la Luz 2012. Official selection, Berlin Film Festival 2012.
  • “Anna”: Macondo Award for Best Cinematography and Best Cinematography at the Salón de la Luz (2016).
  • “El rey” (2004): nominated for the 2005 Goya Awards. “La cerca” (2004): Cinéfondation selection, Cannes 2005.
